
Universidad del Rosario (Bogotá, Colombia) hosted the IV Jean Monnet Network Event of the Bridge Project on the theme "Dialogues on economic and sustainable development between the EU and third countries". Between October 3rd and 5th, 2022 the Bridge Project, funded by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union, carried out a series of academic activities at the Law Faculty of the Universidad de Rosario, Colombia, supported by Academia Colombiana de Derecho Internacional. Participants and speakers were able to attend the three-day event both in person and virtually. Â
On October 03, 2022, the institutional partners from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil), Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal), Universidad de Sevilla (Spain), Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico), Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina), Universidad del Rosario (Colombia) hosted an internal meeting to discuss the results of the project so far and the activities to be developed in the next year. Â
At 3pm, the Round Table on "Arbitraje internacional y relaciones económicas desde el derecho internacional público y privado" has taken place, counting the follow panels: Análisis comparado de la protección de las expectativas legÃtimas en el arbitraje internacional de inversiones y en Colombia (Rafael Tamayo, Universidad del Rosario); Mecanismos de solución de controversias en los acuerdos de libre comercio de la Unión Europea con terceros paÃses (Aline Beltrame de Moura, Universidad Federal de Santa Catarina); El arbitraje "sui generis" en el acuerdo UE-Mercosur (Sandra Negro, Universidad de Buenos Aires); Aspectos elementares na expropriação indireta utilizados pela International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) nas arbitragens de investimento da América Latina (Joana Stelzer, Universidad Federal de Santa Catarina); La apertura de la Unión Europea a mecanismos globales de resolución de controversias en el sector de la contratación internacional (Beatriz Campuzano DÃaz, Universidad de Sevilla); AutonomÃa de las partes y elección de la ley aplicable al contrato desde una perspectiva de derecho comparado (Naiara Posenato, Universitá degli Studi di Milano); La propiedad intelectual y la solución de controvérsias (Manuel Becerra RamÃrez, Instituto de Investigaciones JurÃdicas, UNAM); Judicial review of the new EU Regulation on foreign subsidies (Nuno Cunha Rodrigues, Universidade de Lisboa).
Afterwards, at 5pm, Professor Manuel Becerra RamÃrez released the book "Latin American cases before the International Court of Justice: Borders, armed conflicts, human rights and the environment" coordinated by him and published by Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
On October 4th, at 9:00 am, the Bridge Project hosted its IV Seminar on "Dialogues on economic and sustainable development between the EU and third countries". Opening speeches counted with the words of José Alberto Gaitán, Decano - Facultad de Jurisprudencia Universidad del Rosario; Laura Victoria GarcÃa-Matamoros, Vicedecana - Facultad de Jurisprudencia Universidad del Rosario; Sonia Tato, Jefe adjunta de cooperación de la UE en Colombia; Aline Beltrame de Moura, Project Coordinator - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina; and Walter Arevalo, partner from Universidad de Rosario.
In the main panel, addressing the theme of the event, the Seminar counted on the participation of authorities and experts on the matter, which spoke about their experience and studies: Alejandro Linares Cantillo (Magistrado de la Corte Constitucional Colombiana); Sonia Tato (Jefe adjunta de cooperación de la UE en Colombia); Mikkel Hall (Consejero de la Embajada de Dinamarca en Bogotá); and Jennyffer Vargas (Subdirectora de la Fundación ACUA).
On the same day in the afternoon, the IV Workshop "Dialogues on economic and sustainable development between the EU and third countries" gave space to the presentation of 15 papers written by authors from countries like Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Switzerland and Germany. Papers were selected through Call for Papers. By the end of October, the two best papers selected by the Commission will be awarded with the value of EUR 250 each.
The last proposed activity took place on October 5th. The Course for Public Agents started at 08:00 addressing the regional integration process of the European Union and its impact on the provision of legal assistance in Latin America. The students for the course included the officers from Escuela Militar de Cadetes General José MarÃa Córdova (ESMIC), Universidad Militar Nueva Granada, Armada Nacional de Colombia and students from Universidad del Rosario.Â
The partners of the project taught classes on European Union and Latin America-related themes to more than 100 participants.
More than 200 people participated in the 3 days of event, both online and in person at Universidad del Rosario.
